Kokanee Glacier Park : This is a small sample of the 32,000 ha. Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. I hope more photos will be added as other parts of it are vistied. Between 1500m and 3000m high it is a towering spectacle of high alpine lakes, streams, rugged mountain peaks and old growth forests supporting abundant bio diversified wildlife and famous grizzly habitat.

Sandon, British Columbia : Known in the 1890s as the Monte Carlo of North America, the City of Sandon lies in the Selkirk Mountain Range high in the heart of the Silvery Slocan. Famed for its unbelievably rich deposits of silver-lead ore, following the 1891 discovery of silver by Eli Carpenter and Jack Seaton, thousands of men soon filled the small valley almost to bursting. In its heyday, Sandon boasted 29 hotels, 28 saloons, three breweries, one of the largest “red light districts” in Western Canada, many theatres and opera houses, a soft drink plant, a cigar factory, three sawmills, three churches, two newspapers, a schoolhouse, a hospital, and even a curling rink and a bowling alley. In addition, Sandon was home to over 5,000 people, including miners and millionaires, con men and gamblers, land speculators and “ladies of the evening.”

Silverton, British Columbia : Silverton, population about 250, is BC’s smallest municipality. It sits on the shores of Slocan Lake just 5kms (3 miles) or a short bike ride south of New Denver. Like most other Slocan Valley towns, Silverton started as a silver mining community in the early 1890’s. Many old buildings survive and are still use, and the village has done a great job of restoring and beautifying its buildings.

Stagleap Provincial Park : This park is located at the summit of the highest all weather highway pass in BC and one of the highest paved highways in Canada!. The park has a key role in protecting habitat for internationally endangered mountain caribou. A remnant herd of approximately 40 individuals migrate back and forth across the international border and is heavily dependent on the park to facilitate this movement. In addition, the park provides important habitat for the vulnerable Southern Selkirk population of grizzly bear. Stagleap Provincial Park is one of the most accessible backcountry skiing destinations in the region and has consistently excellent snow conditions that have made it a major backcountry ski and snowshoe destination. The terrain can very hazardous in winter (extreme avalanche dangers) and off-trail use is discouraged. Only those with proper equipment and training should venture into backcountry areas. Hiking the high alpine areas, such as Ripple Ridge and Cornice Ridge, is also very popular in the summer months.

Trail, British Columbia : Located in the land of legend and pioneers, and steeped in rich mining history, Trail is one of B.C.'s important economic centres in the industrial heart of the Kootenays. Known as the City of Silver, Trail had not yet come into being when the Dewdney Trail was started in 1860 to serve as a trade route from the coast to the BC interior. The town now takes its name from the Dewdney Trail, and was earlier known as Trail Creek, maintaining the legacy of other mining towns that have since fallen silent. As a great sports town its also known as the "City of Champions"

Valhalla Provincial Park : 'Valhalla' is a Norse word referring to a warrior's heaven, and heaven is an apt word for this magnificent wilderness. The 49,600 ha (120,000 acre) Valhalla Park encompasses most of the Valhalla range of the Selkirk Mountains in southeastern BC. The park was created as a representative Selkirk Mountain ecosystem. It features massive granite mountains and huge sheer cliffs. The park takes in 30 km (19 mi) of the western shoreline of beautiful Slocan Lake, and supports dense forests of red cedar and western hemlock. With 80 km (50 mi) of hiking trails, a chain of subalpine lakes for canoeing and kayaking, beautiful waterfalls, roaring rivers, and abundant wildlife, this area is a favorite playground for locals and visitors alike. Much of this mountain area, particularly Mulvey Basin, provides internationally known mountain climbing terrain. As well as Valhalla's spectacular scenery, the park also provides important habitat for grizzly bears and mountain goats.
